PRP Applications

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-Rich plasma is a natural product created from your own blood. PRP therapy uses growth factors found in the blood, to support and accelerate healing. PRP is created by preparing your own (autologous) platelets (taken from a blood sample). The blood is processed so that only enriched cells containing high platelet and high growth factor concentrations remain. The concentrated platelets stimulate the growth of collagen which tightens and firms sagging skin, and promotes the growth of new blood vessels, which improves the health of the skin. Further, the platelets invoke tissue responses that attract stem cells to repair damage.

Because your own blood is used, PRP naturally stimulates healing and eliminates the risk of allergic responses. There is no downtime, and minimal discomfort. There is no permanent alteration as with surgery. And PRP has fewer side effects than laser treatments or surgery. For these reasons, PRP has been used successfully in gum disease therapy, facial surgery, orthopedics, and sports medicine since the early ‘90s.

Since 2004 PRP has been used in skin grafting, burns, scars and hair loss disorders because of its healing properties. It can be used alone or as an adjunct to laser skin resurfacing and laser treatments for acne scars.

What is PRP used for?

All uses of PRP in dermatology have shown beneficial effects on wound repair, acne scars, fat grafting, and hair regrowth. Newer applications include combining PRP with a CO2 laser for acne scarring. Other applications include hair restoration, face and neck, and eye rejuvenation.

For Hair Growth: PRP contains essential proteins that stimulate natural hair growth. PRP is injected in to the areas to be treated. Hair loss is a primary concern for men and women. People who have thinning hair will benefit from PRP therapy. This therapy promotes hair growth and strengthens hair follicles. It cannot restore hair on bald spots, but it can increase the thickness of thinning hair. PRP therapy is used in hair restoration for natural looking results.

For Facial Rejuvenation: PRP uses the body’s own natural healing processes to reverse aging. Conventional approaches are more invasive, have longer recoveries and can permanently alter your face. When used for facial rejuvenation, PRP helps reduce lines, wrinkles and scars, and improves the appearance of aging skin. PRP injections promote tissue remodeling to increase skin elasticity and collagen growth. PRP can smooth the skin’s texture, and firm the skin. PRP is safe and effective for skin rejuvenation.

For Under Eye puffiness, darkness and wrinkles: Traditional approaches include surgery, fat removal and laser treatments. PRP therapy is less invasive than most other procedures to treat bags under the eyes. PRP can decrease dark circles, hollowness, and eye wrinkles.
